Gurudongmar Lake

1. Gurudongmar Lake

Sitting at an astonishing altitude of 17,800 feet, Gurudongmar Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world and holds deep religious significance for both Buddhists and Sikhs. Legend says Guru Padmasambhava touched a portion of the lake, ensuring it remains unfrozen even during intense winters to offer drinking water to the locals.

Travel Tip: Due to extreme heights and lower oxygen levels, an overnight stay at Lachen is required to acclimatize properly before visiting the lake early next morning.

Yumthang Valley

2. Yumthang Valley (Valley of Flowers)

Yumthang Valley is a breathtaking nature sanctuary complete with winding rivers, grazing yaks, natural hot springs, and dense pine forests. Between late March and June, the valley transforms spectacularly as over 24 varieties of Rhododendron trees burst into vibrant, colorful bloom, earning its title as the Valley of Flowers.

Travel Tip: Don't miss out on driving an extra 15 kilometers up from Yumthang to visit Zero Point, where civilization ends and year-round snow landscapes begin.

3. Lachen & Lachung Twin Villages

These picturesque, remote mountain villages serve as your base hosts for exploring North Sikkim. Dotted with traditional wooden homes, cascading waterfalls, and ancient Buddhist monasteries, Lachen and Lachung provide a deep look into the rich hospitality and tranquil lifestyle of the local Bhutia and Lepcha cultures.

Zero Point Sikkim

3. Zero Point (Yume Samdong)

Situated roughly 15 kilometers further up from Yumthang Valley at a height of 15,300 feet, Zero Point gets its name because the civilian road entirely ends here, sitting right next to the international border. It is famously loved by travelers for offering magnificent, uninterrupted views of snow-covered terrain and heavy snowscapes nearly all year round.

Travel Tip: Because of the steep altitude increase and cold, thin mountain breezes, ensure you pack heavy woolens, gloves, and reliable snow boots before taking off from Lachung.
